What to wear for your maternity photo session
Your maternity photo session is all about celebrating this incredible chapter of your life. The focus will be on you and the connection you share with your growing baby—not just the outfits you wear. That’s why I always encourage clients to wear what feels comfortable, natural, and true to themselves. When you feel at ease, your personality and emotions shine through, creating the heartfelt and timeless images we’re aiming for. That said, here are some general tips to help you feel confident and beautiful:

Choose Comfort Above All
Your comfort is the most important thing. Whether you prefer flowy dresses, form-fitting outfits, or a cosy pair of jeans with a knit sweater, your photos will look best when you feel at ease. Soft, stretchy fabrics that accommodate your bump are often a good choice.
Embrace Neutral and Soft Tones
Neutral and pastel tones—like cream, beige, blush, or soft blue—tend to photograph beautifully. These colours allow the focus to remain on you rather than the outfit. Avoid bright, bold patterns or logos, as they can distract from the overall look.

Highlight Your Bump
If you want to emphasise your baby bump, consider fitted or empire-waist styles that gently hug your silhouette. Maxi dresses with a slight flare below the bump can also be flattering and comfortable.
Add Texture and Layers
Light textures like lace, knits, or flowy fabrics can add depth and interest to your photos without overpowering them. A simple cardigan or shawl can also provide an additional layer and give you something to interact with during the shoot.
Coordinate, Don’t Match
If your partner or other family members are joining the session, aim for outfits that coordinate rather than match. Complementary tones and styles work beautifully together without feeling too staged.

Consider the Location
Think about where your session will take place. If we’re outdoors in a park or at the beach, flowy dresses or casual linen outfits may suit the setting. For an indoor session, cosy knits or elegant loungewear can create a warm and intimate vibe.
Accessorize Sparingly
Keep accessories minimal to let your natural beauty shine. A delicate necklace or bracelet can be a lovely tou
ch, but avoid anything too bold that might draw attention away from the moment.
Barefoot or Simple Shoes
For maternity sessions, especially indoors or on sandy beaches, going barefoot can add a relaxed and natural feel. If you’re outdoors and need shoes, opt for simple flats or sandals that blend with your outfit.
Finally, remember: there’s no need to overthink it! My goal is to create photos that celebrate your unique journey and the connections that matter most. Whatever you choose to wear, we’ll make sure your session feels as beautiful and special as this time in your life.
